ONE-P impacts on European industrial development

A new solar energy company called Eight19 has been created in partnership with 3 professors involved in the project: Professor Sir Richard Friend, Professor Henning Sirringhaus and Professor Neil Greenham (University of Cambridge).

Eight19, will develop and manufacture high performance, lower cost plastic solar cells for high-growth volume markets. As stated by Neil Greenham, leader of the WP2 (Objective: synthesise, process, and characterise new materials and nanostructures for low-cost photovoltaics and photodetectors, producing devices with performance which goes beyond the current state of the art) :

The company is not focused on materials development, but will benefit from IP generated in the University, and is also looking to buy high-performance materials commercially.  Eight19 can certainly provide an exploitation pathway for Cambridge IP developed in ONE-P.  Additionally, even though Eight19 will not necessarily have direct access to ONE-P materials, it has been enormously valuable when raising this GBP4.5million investment to be able to demonstrate UCAM is fully engaged with leading chemistry partners, both academic and industrial, through a project like ONE-P. Whether the new materials come directly to Eight19 via Cambridge, or indirectly via commercial production in chemical companies, the added value is there either way.”
