IMEC is one of the largest independent R&D institutes world-wide, with an international staff of 1,500 people, 33% of which comes from abroad. IMEC performs scientific research which runs 3 to 10 years ahead of industrial needs. IMEC co-operates closely with world-leading companies and research centers. Secondly, IMEC performs education and training of experts in the field of microelectronics through Master and Ph.D. theses (about 212 in 2005). Finally, IMEC co-operates closely with universities. IMEC has created 23 spin-off companies in its 25 years of existence.

Verbatim

"As a technology institute, one of the key bottlenecks in improving and optimizing organic electronic device performance is in the access to new and improved materials, like those available in ONE-P. In return, we offer valuable feedback to the partners who develop these materials."

IMEC_group_photoThe Organic Electronics Group at IMEC started in 1998, and today involve 20 staff and Ph.D. researchers for research on OTFT devices (also rectifiers, memories, phototransistors) and circuits, and organic solar cells. The IMEC R&D facilities relevant for this project include: i) fully equipped cleanroom appropriate for novel materials like organics, ii) a laboratory for organic semiconductors, labeled “O-line”, where processes for organic semiconductor devices are prototyped and stabilized. The O-line is open for industrial participation, and iii) laboratories for device and measurements, simulation, mask design, …
