The Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P) is part of MPG. On the average, 440 persons work at MPI-P, amongst them up to 150 international visiting scientists (postdoctoral staff and guest scientists).
The MPI-P is well equipped with special laboratories , a great number of instruments, computers, and network services. There are very few centres world-wide where these emerging methodologies are accessible as an ensemble at this state-of-the-art level; none of these centres is located in Europe except MPI-P.
The synthetic chemistry group has considerable expertise in new polymer-forming reactions including methods of organometallic chemistry, multi-functional polymers, graphene chemistry and physics, dyes and pigments, chemistry and physics of single molecules, molecular materials with liquid crystalline properties for electronic and optoelectronic devices, materials for lithium or hydrogen storage.
